Here’s an interesting video demonstration of Microsoft’s Windows Media Connect technology shown by Jason Flaks. Basically, it’s a platform for integrating content with multiple devices such as CD players, set-top boxes, DVD players, etc. In other words, consumer electronics developers will be able to create Windows Media Connect compatible interfaces that allow consumers to access various content accross their network. So if you’ve got a hard disk full of music on your computer and you want to listen to that on your stereo, a Windows Media Connect compatible digital media reciever will allow you to browse and play that media on your stereo system.
Many of the upcoming iPAQ Pocket PCs are being marketed as Mobile Media Companions. I wonder if they’ll be compatible with the Windows Media Connect interface.
