As posted by Engadget, Sandisk has announced 6 and 8 Gigabyte MicroSDHC cards. It’s unclear if this is a new version of the MicroSD format which may be uncompatible with current devices or weather the HC just stands for High Capacity and will work in what we’ve got right now. Hopefully it’s the latter.
Not one to miss an opportunity to seize the moment, SanDisk’s Jeff Kost says that with the new microSDHC cards, “any mobile phone with a compatible microSDHC slot will have just as much storage as the largest-capacity iPhone.”
Seeing as the MicroSD cards currently max out at 2Gb, this is great news. Also, hopefully the prices won’t be too bad since currently we can get a 2Gb MicroSD for less than $20 and a 1Gb for about $8.
