It’s been years and years since AOL released an Instant Messaging program for Windows Mobile. Heck, back then it was called Windows CE and Pocket PC. Now, AOL has released an AOL MyMobile beta program that includes instant messaging and email reading along with some other neat content like weather, MapQuest, MovieFone, CityGuide, AOL Pictures, Contacts, Sports, and News. If you’re still an AOL user, this looks like the program you’ve been waiting for to get on your Windows Mobile device.
I just installed it and the AIM component seems to work. It does not seem to have push email however. The interface is also very animated and therefore feels very slow. The animations should have been timed to be much quicker in order to give users the impression of speed. Even switching between components gives a long “Loading” screen which is a bit annoying.
So what do you think? Does this have the potential for being a great application or is it just another mobile portal app?
