August is the 6 month anniversary of Microsoft’s announcement of Windows Phone 7 and since the first beta of the developer tools were released, there have been over 300,000 downloads of the software. How many of those downloads will translate into apps in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace remains to be seen, but considering most of those people probably intended to at least learn how to make apps for Windows Phone 7, I’m thinking you might see a lot.
Microsoft also posted a Developer Road Map on the Windows Phone 7 blog so that you can get a good idea of how long you have to get your Windows Phone 7 application finalized and into the Marketplace for launch. Also note that the final version of the developer tools will be available on September 16th. The new version will have some highly requested API’s and might break a few minor things that would have worked in earlier versions. So come September 16th, plan on recompiling your apps for final testing.
Does the 300,000 tools news give you some confidence in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace?
