Todd Brix, Senior Director for Windows Phone Marketplace, has a new Blog post at the Windows Phone Developer Blog that gives us a some updates about a few Windows Phone Marketplace stats, but also announces a new Global Publishing program. Unfortunately, the new program sounds a bit unfair, but it does allow developers in non-supported countries across the Middle East and Africa to submit applications to the Windows Phone Marketplace. Basically, you have to register with a third party service called Yalla Apps which will submit your apps to the real Windows Phone Marketplace on your behalf. They’ll also take your money and charge you “credits” for each app you submit along with more fees for each time it has to be resubmit. You have to pay $99 for 100 credits, each app submission costs 25 credits wether it’s a free or paid app, and development device unlocking costs 50 credits per device and is accomplished using remote desktop access from Yalla Apps. Oh and Yalla Apps takes 20% of your profits after the 30% is taken by Microsoft. If you’re in the Middle East or Africa, are you going to take advantage of this program or wait until your country becomes officially supported?
A few other news bits from Todd Brix’s blog include:
– The number of free app submissions for registered developers has been increased to 100
– Microsoft’s Ad Control features has had a warm reception with its use in 95% of Ad supported apps
– Everybody loves apps that have free trials
– And Microsoft is still adding about 100 apps per day to the Marketplace
