A number of us here at Pocketnow are big fans of the Zune Pass subscription music service. According to Zune Insider some big changes are coming October 3rd. First of all, the service will now be available in Canada finally. The other big change is in the pricing. As of October 3rd, new subscribers will pay only $9.99 per month for unlimited DRM protected music downloads on up to 4 devices (1 PC + any combination of PC, Zune device and Windows Phone), unlimited streaming from Zune.net and XBOX 360, plus unlimited streaming of music videos.
That’s $5 less than the current $14.99 plan which includes unlimited DRM downloads on up to 3 mobile devices AND 3 PCs with support for unlimited streaming on Xbox 360, Windows Phones, Zune HDs, and the Zune.net website. Plus you get 10 songs per month that you can keep as unprotected MP3s. If you’re already on the $14.99/month plan or presumably the current 3 month or yearly plan you will continue to keep those features unless you decide to switch. The new unlimited music video streaming feature will also come to these old $14.99/month plans for free.
The new $9.99 plan sounds comparable to Spotify and all of the other music subscription services out there, but if you’re a huge music fan who prefers owning your music, you might want to jump on the $14.99/month or yearly plan while they’re still available. The yearly plan is $149 per year which comes to about $12.50 per month by the way.
