The Afeela is a new electric car prototype designed by Sony and Honda. Well, it’s been in the works for a few years, but now we’re finally getting a closer look at the new EV. This is the product of an interesting “half and half” relationship between Sony and Honda, and you’ll see some crazy Playstation integration in the car. There’s not a whole lot we can say about this prototype at the moment though. We didn’t get to test drive it or even see it move. This was just a demo of the internals and a look at the outside from a prototype perspective.
The front bumper has a computer screen on it that’s customizable with themes or dynamic content like the car’s battery level. Above it’s set to show logos for the Fortnite Playstation game that you might be playing on the inside. We’re not sure what the purpose of this would be. Is it important for people in front of you, about to be run over, to see the logo of a video game? Sure, it’s unique technology, but… why?
On the inside, there are touch screens all over. The whole front dashboard is a touch screen where you can launch Playstation games and other apps. The rear passenger seats have touch screens for passenger entertainment systems as well.
It looks like there are cameras around the car as well, but we don’t know if that will have anything to do with self driving features or whatnot. We don’t even know if this car can drive yet either. The grey/white color is kind of bland as well, so it doesn’t stand out so much as being particularly fancy or interesting, but with cars sometimes that’s a really good thing. I suppose the light up Fortnite logo on the front may spoil the subdued nature of the design though.
We’ll have to stay tuned for any future information about specs and range and speed and all that important stuff.
