New iPhone-Like UI Programs Make Windows Mobile Easier to Use

…NOT! PocketPCMag.com has posted an article highlighting some of Vito Technology’s new Windows Mobile applications that supposedly make Windows Mobile easier to use. In reality, it’s pretty obvious from looking at the screen captures, that these programs do the opposite. The interface is completely foreign, you’ve lost access to the familiar start menu, minimize button, soft-key menus, and software input panel. The applications don’t fit in with the standard Windows Mobile interface, thus causing an …

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 on Video

InfoSync World was able to get a video of the yet-to-be-released Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. This is their first Windows Mobile device, and it is sure to garner quite a bit of attention. The video shows the Expose-like application launcher/switcher in action. It’s unclear if the thumbnails represent running applications or programs to launch. The thumbnails are unlabeled so it’s difficult to understand what they represent. This will be interesting to try out when it …

Ye Olde Startrek Running Windows Mobile 6

Y’all might remember the old HTC Star Trek smartphone also known as the Qtek 8500, i-mate Smartflip, and Cingular 3125. iNav iGuidance v4.0

INTRODUCTION     iNav iGuidance (and its derivatives) has been my favorite GPS Navigation program since I bought my first GPS receiver. Back then, iGuidance was the fastest, most accurate and easiest to use program for navigation. It used the same Pocket PC interface with easy-to-read menus. I could still access the start menu, minimize buttons, clock, volume control, and signal strength in the title bar. The voice prompts were clear, easy to understand, and it …

Exclusive Video: Opera 9.5 Mobile Tour

Here’s my video walk-through of an early Opera Mobile v9.5 Beta. There are some significant design flaws with this program, most notably the removal of the Windows Mobile bottom bar with softkey menus. This makes it impossible to use the browser with the highly efficient keyboard shortcuts found in the rest of Windows Mobile. Instead you have a series of “mystery meat” icons that require a stylus to actuate (and documentation to understand). So if …
