While the Bing integration on Windows Phone 7 is still stuck with just a basic search field and a simple mapping application, Microsoft’s Bing team is still hard at work on adding some fantastic features to the Bing applications on other mobile platforms. The Bing App for Apple’s iOS was recently updated with a very cool new feature enhancement to the “Bing Vision” function. Normally the Bing Vision feature is able to run searches based on pointing the camera at things like books, bar codes, or anything with text on it. The bar code scanning feature has been updated now to support both Microsoft Tag scanning and QR Code scanning. This is a pretty big deal since now you don’t have to figure out what type of code scanner app you need to start up in order to get whatever content might be hiding behind whatever type of tag you may see. Having a single app that does all sorts of real-world image tag/code scanning will be very advantageous to users.
