DRM is such a pain!

So I’ve been trying out this new Napster 2.0 music service. I bought maybe 4 or 5 songs. They play great on the desktop computer, but guess what? They don’t transfer to my Pocket PC’s 512Mb SD card! If I try to transfer them via WMP9, I get a license error. If I copy them to the SD card manually, they don’t play. The only way to get these DRM protected Windows Media Audio tracks …

Interesting uses for GPS

So yesterday I went snowboarding in the Catskills of NY and took my new Belkin Bluetooth GPS receiver along with my imate Phone Edition 2003. With the GPS receiver in Xtrac mode sitting in my pocket I was able to see my altitude. Recording my GPS tracks allowed me to keep track of my speed while snowboarding down the slopes. Turns out I was going about 20-25mph. Attached photo was taken with the XDA II …

I got my XDA II!

Well, my iMATE Phone Edition XDA II arrived this morning. It is quite an amazing little device! It seems the ones being sold in the UAE are the only SIM unlocked ones which can be used on any network. O2 and T-Mobile are selling theirs locked. Using a bluetooth headset with the XDA II is a joy! A week previous to today I thought I’d upgrade to Windows Mobile 2003 on my iPAQ 3970 and …

Dreaming: Bluetooth Answering Machine

In the discussion of my review of the Bluetooth 56K Modem, I had another idea… Wouldn’t it be cool if you had a Bluetooth Answering Machine plugged into your home landline… it would record voicemail messages in it’s internal memory or whatnot… but as soon as you got home, your Pocket PC would connect to the answering machine via Bluetooth and the number of voicemail messages for your selected mailbox would pop-up on your screen …

Brighthand says “Clamshell Makes A Comeback”

A new article on Brighthand suggests that Microsoft may have abandoned the Handheld PC operating system and clamshell device design a bit too early. I agree that the Handheld PCs were flawed as the hardware capabilities and costs were not viable at the time. I also agree that there is a market for these devices… but I don’t necessarily agree that the “Pocket PC” operating system should be redesigned to accomodate handheld PCs that include …

The ultimate PDA (for now)

It seems to me that once the GSM/GPRS Wireless Pack software gets updated to work (properly) with the iPAQ H5450, that will be the ultimate PDA for the time being. The H5550 has Windows Mobile 2003 and thus will not work with the GSM/GPRS Expansion Pack. However in combination with the H5450, you will have WiFi, Bluetooth, GSM cell phone, GPRS internet, GSM-CSD internet, SDIO, Universal Infrared remote, 48MB ROM, 64MB RAM, 400Mhz Xscale CPU, …
