Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 18, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you visit Book of Adam Z (“BoAZ”, “this site”, “we”, “us”) at https://bookofadamz.com, how it is used, and the choices you have. This is a personal website run by Adam Z. Lein. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising.

Information we collect

Comments

When you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address and (optional) website you enter, the comment itself, your IP address, and your browser’s user-agent string. This information is used to display your comment, to contact you about it if needed, and to fight spam. Your email address is never published.

Comments are checked for spam by Antispam Bee, which runs entirely on this server and does not send your comment to an outside service. Comments are reviewed before they appear. Once approved, your name, website and comment are publicly visible next to the post.

If you check the box to save your details, your name, email and website are stored in cookies on your device so you don’t have to enter them again. These cookies last for one year.

Avatars (Gravatar)

To show a profile picture next to comments, an anonymized string created from your email address (a “hash”) may be sent to the Gravatar service, operated by Automattic Inc., to check whether you have a Gravatar image. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. If you don’t use Gravatar, a generic placeholder image is shown.

Contact form

If you use the contact form, we collect the name, email address and message you submit. The message is delivered to us by email through Oracle Cloud’s email delivery service. We use this information only to read and answer your message.

Server and security logs

Like almost every website, our web server automatically records basic technical information about each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and your browser’s user-agent string. These logs are used to keep the site secure and working properly (for example, to block abusive traffic) and are deleted automatically after about five weeks.

Feed and view statistics

When the RSS feed is requested, the request (including IP address, user agent and referring address) may be recorded to count subscribers. We also count how many times each post is viewed in order to show popular posts. These counts are used only for site statistics.

Cookies and analytics

This site uses a small number of cookies. Some are strictly necessary for the site to work (for example, remembering your cookie choices or your comment details). Others are used for analytics.

With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors use the site, such as which pages are popular and how people arrive here. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as your approximate location, device and browser type, and the pages you visit. See Google’s privacy policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

A cookie banner lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies, and you can change your choice at any time using the cookie settings on the site. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Service providers

We rely on a few trusted companies to run this site. They process information on our behalf only as needed to provide their services:

  • Cloudflare, Inc. delivers and protects the site. All traffic passes through Cloudflare’s network, which processes your IP address and request details to provide security, performance and basic, privacy-focused traffic statistics. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
  • Oracle Cloud hosts the site’s server and delivers email from the contact form.
  • Google LLC provides Google Analytics (only with your consent).
  • Automattic Inc. provides Gravatar profile images for comments.

Embedded content from other websites

Posts on this site may include embedded content such as videos, images, social media posts and maps from sites like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and others. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website. Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including tracking you if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Affiliate links and external links

Some links to shopping sites are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, the retailer may use cookies to tell it that you came from this site so that we can earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This site also links to many other websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites, so please read their privacy policies.

The fediverse (ActivityPub)

Posts on this site are published to the fediverse, the network of social platforms such as Mastodon, using the ActivityPub protocol. If you follow this site from a fediverse account, or reply to, like or share one of its posts, we receive your public profile information (such as your username, display name, profile picture and server) and the content of your interaction. Replies may be displayed as comments on this site. Information shared this way is public and is also stored on the other servers involved, which we do not control. Removing it from this site does not remove copies held elsewhere.

How long we keep information

  • Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so they can stay displayed with the post, unless you ask us to remove them.
  • Contact form messages are kept in our email for as long as needed to respond and keep a record of the conversation.
  • Server logs are deleted after about five weeks.
  • Analytics data is kept by Google according to the retention period set in Google Analytics (up to 14 months).

Your rights and choices

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you, or send you a copy of it;
  • correct information that is inaccurate;
  • delete your personal information, including your comments.

Depending on where you live, including in some U.S. states and in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Canada, you may have additional rights under local law, such as the right to object to or restrict certain processing, the right to withdraw consent at any time, and the right to complain to a data protection authority. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use it to make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you. We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) and Do Not Track signals: if your browser sends one, analytics cookies are not set.

To make a request, please use the contact form. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request, for example by checking that you control the email address used with your comment. We will not treat you differently for exercising your privacy rights.

How we protect information

The site is served only over encrypted HTTPS connections. Access to the server and the site’s administration area is restricted. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold.

Children’s privacy

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

International visitors

This site is operated from the United States, and its server is located in the United States. If you visit from another country, your information will be processed in the United States and by our service providers wherever they operate.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Significant changes may also be announced on the site.
