Skype has finally appeared for Windows Phone, but it’s still not the final version. Skype was announced for Windows Phone a very long time ago… even before Microsoft decided to aquire Skype. Some thought Microsoft was taking the extra time to fully integrate Skype with Windows Phone, but at least today we get a separate app without full integration. Still it seems to work pretty well and supports a good range of Skype features. You can video call, instant message, voice call, group IM, etc. There’s a nice interface for multi-tasking between instant messaging and video calls as well. There is no Facebook integration and Skype-Out calls require you to dial an actual number as opposed to selecting someone from your contacts list. It does not appear to support push notifications or background tasks either unfortunately. Still the design looks great and this app should be able to handle most Skype calling needs at least until we (hopefully) see full integration with Windows Phone in the future.
You can download the Skype Beta for Windows Phone from the Windows Phone Marketplace now!
