You’ve already seen the Touch Diamond’s boot up video which teaches you how to use the TouchFLO 3D interface.
In the video below I’ll show you around a little more and add some of my thoughts on the interface.
As Horace Luke of HTC said in a press conference about the Touch Diamond and its new TouchFLO 3D interface;
“You should be able to carry a bag and walk down the street and get to all the content you want.”
“All the top scenarios are focused around one handed”
“If you have to stop somehow to do a message, that’s broken.”
Well, it turns out, the TouchFLO 3D is much more difficult to use in such one-handed scenarios since you can’t feel the buttons on the screen and the buttons for each content panel are never in the same location. So you really do have to stop somewhere, focus all of your attention on the screen and then use your finger gestures to access the content. Horace probably should have been talking about the T-Mobile Shadow, when referring to ideal one-handed usage.
I was traveling this weekend, and usually I have my phone in the car cradle plugged into the stereo playing music and GPS navigation instructions. It was very difficult to interact with the music player and switch between GPS, music, or phone call applicaitons as compared to my TyTN II which has a wide variety of usage scenario support as well as hardware buttons you can feel with your fingers.
On the other hand, there are plenty of other great enhancements in the Touch Diamond that I absolutely love, so stay tuned for more thoughts, and don’t write this one off just yet!
