WLAN SIM card specs proposed

“The WLAN Smart Card Consortium has released a complete set of specifications which it claims will allow mobile network operators to extend SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) technology for Wi-Fi hot spot authentication. The full solution consists of the newly released Handler Specification together with the WLAN SIM Specification released in September 2003.”

This sounds like a good idea. It would be great if I could put my SIM card into any device and have my GSM/GPRS/WiFi account access information activated instantly. It would also be nice if the devices could read settings off a SIM card. You know, like the server names for configuring MMS, GPRS, Email accounts, etc. Heck, wouldn’t it be great if you could save you website passwords on a SIM card and have instant access to secure sites?
