I love seeing new innovative concept computing devices, and Lenovo has yet another one here with the ThinkBook Modular PC Concept. The idea of a modular laptop computer isn’t new, but it is a really good idea that I wish was more prevalent. Lenovo’s new concept kind of reminds me of the Framework Laptop, but that one was more about being able to repair or replace everything really easily. This ThinkBook Modular PC is more about being able to reconfigure things for different use case scenarios.
In the header photo you can see a second display propped up next to the main laptop. That 2nd display can magnetically attach to the back of the primary display for portability and storage. There’s a magnetic kickstand there that can be used to prop up the 2nd display, but you’ll need to pull out a USB-C wire to plug the 2nd display into the main computer.
You can see a bit about how modular this PC is in the above video.
The keyboard also comes off of the base and guess what… that secondary display that was stuck to the back of the primary display can now be attached to the base instead in order to get a dual-screen hinged laptop mode.
The ports on the base are also modular. This reminds me a lot of the Framework laptop, but these are not the same shape at all. So Framework’s port modules will not be compatible here. Still, it’s nice to be able to swap out port capabilities depending on what you may need in your specific workflow.
